New Delhi, Oct 17 (KNO): The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has ordered a judicial inquiry into the police action in Leh town on September 24, which resulted in the deaths of four individuals.

As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the Ministry of Home Affairs issued the notification on Friday, which reads that an FIR (No. 144/2025) has been registered at Police Station Leh under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, covering offences including abetment, attempt to commit offences, causing injury, and obstruction of public servants.

The inquiry will be conducted by former Supreme Court Judge Dr. B. S. Chauhan. He will be assisted by retired District and Sessions Judge Mohan Singh Parihar as Judicial Secretary and IAS officer Tushar Anand as Administrative Secretary.

The investigation will examine the circumstances that led to the law and order situation, the police action and the deaths of the four individuals.

Notably, Ladakh’s peaceful protests for statehood and Sixth Schedule protections escalated into violence on September 24 in Leh. Youth clashed with police, torching BJP offices and vehicles; four civilians were killed and more than 80 injured.

A curfew was imposed and activist Sonam Wangchuk was arrested—
