Jammu, Mar 9 : The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday trapped and arrested a Head Constable posted at Police Post Talwara in Reasi district for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹5,000 from a complainant in connection with a case under investigation.

 

ACB registered a case FIR No. 05/2026 U/S 07 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against public servant namely Head Constable Parvaiz Ahmed Bhati S/O Late Mohd Din R/O Village Mandhar Tehsil Haveli District Poonch presently posted at Police Post Talwara, Reasi for demanding and accepting illegal gratification from the complainant.

The accused public servant demanded a bribe from the complainant for manipulating the course of the investigation by dropping certain sections of law in the case registered against him at PP Talwara, which was being investigated by the accused, it reads.

Statement reads that, As the complainant did not wish to pay the bribe, he approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau to take legal action against the accused public servant in accordance with the law.
On receipt of the compliant, a discreet verification was conducted, which corroborated the demand of bribe by the public servant concerned and accordingly, a case FIR No. 05/2026 U/S 07 of Prevention of Corruption, Act, 1988 was registered at P/S ACB Udhampur and investigation was taken-up, it reads.

During the course of investigation, a trap team headed by Dy. SP Rank Officer was constituted. The team laid a successful trap and accused public servant was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe amount of ₹5000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses. The accused was arrested on the spot by the ACB team after following due process of law, it reads.
The bribe money was also recovered from the possession of accused in presence of independent witnesses associated with the trap team. Moreover, search was also conducted in the residential quarter of accused at Talwara in presence of Magistrate. Further investigation of the instant case is going on.
