Kund (Kulgam), Feb 10: Braving the harsh winter chill, thousands of devotees on Monday gathered at Waltangoo in the Kund area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district to observe the annual Urs of revered Sufi saint Hazrat Syed Noor Shah Wali Baghdadi (RA) with deep religious fervour.
Devotees from different parts of the Valley, including men, women and children, visited the shrine to pay obeisance. The main congregation was witnessed on Monday afternoon, during which special prayers, recitation of the Holy Quran and Naat-e-Shareef were offered.
a local resident said the Urs is observed every year with great reverence, drawing people from all walks of life who come to seek blessings and spiritual solace. “The shrine remains a symbol of faith, unity and peace for the people,” he added.
During the religious sermons, scholars highlighted the life and teachings of Hazrat Syed Noor Shah Wali Baghdadi (RA), emphasizing his dedication to serving humanity and spreading the message of Islam, compassion and brotherhood.
The Urs, observed annually on February 9, also saw devotees offering Dua-e-Majlis and Fateha Khawani, praying for lasting peace, prosperity and harmony in Kashmir, and seeking mercy and blessings from the Almighty.
The Auqaf Committee, with active support from local residents, made elaborate arrangements for devotees. As part of the arrangements, food (langar/dinner) and refreshments were prepared and distributed. The Auqaf Committee, along with around 250 local youths, distributed nearly 4,000 food plates among devotees during the Urs.
To ensure peaceful and smooth conduct of the event, the district administration put in place necessary arrangements. Senior police officials, including the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Highway Qazigund, who was personally overseeing the arrangements, along with the SDPO and SHO Kund, remained present to supervise security, regulate traffic and maintain law and order.
