The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Shafat Ahmed Shangloo, who had been evading authorities for over three decades in connection with the 1989 kidnapping of Dr. Rubiya Sayeed, daughter of former Union Home Minister, Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
According to the CBI, Shangloo was wanted for his alleged involvement in the case and had remained untraceable for nearly 35 years. He was reportedly associated with other accused individuals in planning and executing the incident, which was investigated under various sections of the Ranbir Penal Code and provisions of the TADA Act.
Shangloo had also been carrying a cash reward of ₹10 lakh announced for information leading to his arrest.
Following his apprehension, the CBI confirmed that he will be presented before the designated TADA Court in Jammu within the legally mandated timeframe.
The agency reiterated its commitment to pursuing long-pending cases and bringing absconding accused persons before the law.
