Srinagar, Jan 17: The Meteorological Department Srinagar on Saturday issued a detailed forecast, warning of a fresh wet spell likely to impact the Union Territory over the coming days.
Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said that January 17 and 18 are expected to remain partly to generally cloudy, with the possibility of light snowfall over isolated higher reaches.
He said that from January 19 to 20, weather conditions are likely to turn generally cloudy, with light to moderate rain and snowfall at scattered to fairly widespread places across the region.
The MET Director further informed that January 21 will witness partly to generally cloudy conditions, with chances of light snowfall at isolated higher elevations.
According to the forecast, a significant change in weather is expected from the evening of January 22, with generally cloudy conditions and light to moderate rain or snowfall at most places between January 23 and 24. There is a possibility of heavy rain or snowfall over a few districts of the Chenab Valley, the Pir Panjal range and parts of south Kashmir during this period.
On January 26, light rain or snowfall is likely at scattered places, he added.
Issuing an advisory, the Meteorological Department warned of the possibility of heavy rain and snowfall in some areas of the Chenab Valley, Pir Panjal range and south Kashmir. It also cautioned about gusty winds at a few places and the risk of landslides in vulnerable zones.
Travelers have been advised to plan their journeys carefully, particularly during January 23 and 24, and strictly follow traffic and administrative advisories.
Farmers have also been advised to suspend agricultural operations during the forecasted wet spell. (KNC)
