Jammu, March 22: In view of the ongoing Navratri festival and the surge in passenger movement, the Jammu Division of Indian Railways conducted an intensive ticket checking drive on Sunday along the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra–Pathankot Cantt rail section.
The drive was carried out under the supervision of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal, with the aim of ensuring passenger comfort, safety, and adherence to railway rules during the festive rush.
Special teams comprising ticket checking staff and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel were deployed across trains and station premises. During the checking, a total of 249 passengers were found traveling without valid tickets or with irregular tickets. Railway authorities collected fines amounting to ₹1.10 lakh on the spot.
Officials stated that the primary objective of the drive was to curb unauthorized travel and enhance the overall travel experience for pilgrims and other passengers during Navratri.
In addition to enforcement, passengers were also made aware of the benefits of the RailOne mobile application to promote convenient and digital ticketing services.
Speaking on the occasion, Uchit Singhal reiterated the Railways’ commitment to providing a safe and pleasant journey. He warned that strict action would continue against ticketless travelers under relevant provisions of the Railways Act and appealed to passengers to travel only with valid tickets.
Railway authorities indicated that such drives will continue throughout the festive period to maintain discipline and ensure smooth operations.
