SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 29: In view of the forecasted wet spell and to ensure the city’s preparedness against waterlogging, the Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Faz Lul Haseeb, on Monday conducted a comprehensive inspection of the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) Control Room at the Drainage Circle Office, Darish Kadal.

During the inspection, the Commissioner assessed the functioning and operational efficiency of the SCADA-based dewatering system, which provides real-time monitoring and centralized control of dewatering equipment installed at 80 dewatering stations across Srinagar city and its adjoining areas. The system is operated through the Main Control Centre (MCC) at Darish Kadal, with a Backup Control Centre (BCC) at JKERA Complex, Rambagh, ensuring operational continuity and redundancy.

The Commissioner closely examined live operational feeds, system performance indicators, and emergency response readiness. Emphasising zero tolerance towards lapses, he issued firm directions for round-the-clock monitoring, swift resolution of technical faults, and strict adherence to maintenance protocols to ensure uninterrupted dewatering operations during adverse weather conditions.

Commissioner underscored the critical role of technology-driven solutions in urban flood management and directed field officers to remain on high alert, ensuring seamless coordination between control centres and ground teams. He further stressed that any instance of waterlogging attributable to operational negligence would be viewed seriously.

The inspection reflects SMC’s proactive and technology-led approach towards strengthening urban drainage infrastructure and safeguarding the city against weather-induced disruptions, reaffirming the Corporation’s commitment to efficient and responsive civic service delivery
