The Border Sports Festival was held with great enthusiasm at Nowshera in Rajouri district, drawing a large gathering and celebrating traditional sports, youth participation, and community spirit in the border region.

Deputy Chief Minister Shri Surinder Choudhary and Minister for Youth Services and Sports, J&K, Shri Satish Sharma graced the occasion as chief guests and were accompanied by the Secretary, J&K Sports Council. On the occasion, the dignitaries laid the foundation stone for the construction of a volleyball court, practice pitch, and other allied sports infrastructure works at the Sports Stadium, Nowshera, aimed at strengthening sports facilities in border areas.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Surinder Choudhary said that the government is ensuring that quality sports infrastructure is made available in border and far-flung areas on par with urban centres. He emphasized that focused investments in sports facilities are bridging the rural–urban gap, enabling youth from border regions to compete at the same level as their urban counterparts. He added that under the leadership of Honourable CM, Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing a steady transformation in the sports sector, with inclusive policies and grassroots development at the core.

The highlight of the festival was the Dangal competition, where Hamid from Iran emerged victorious after a series of thrilling bouts. Wrestlers from different regions displayed remarkable strength and skill, enthralling the spectators. The chief guests presented awards to the wrestlers at the conclusion of the bouts.

In addition to Dangal, competitions in kabaddi and tug of war were also organised, drawing enthusiastic participation from local teams and adding to the vibrant sporting atmosphere. A massive turnout of spectators was witnessed throughout the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Youth Services and Sports, J&K, Shri Satish Sharma said that sports facilities are now being systematically extended to border areas to ensure equal access and opportunity. He stated that the youth of border regions are no longer at a disadvantage and are being empowered with infrastructure, coaching, and competitive platforms comparable to urban areas. He reiterated that sports play a crucial role in promoting health, peace, and positive engagement among the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Border Sports Festival stood as a strong testament to the government’s commitment to inclusive sports development, ensuring that border areas are fully integrated into the mainstream sporting ecosystem
