A fire broke out at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Qazigund on Tuesday morning, triggering a swift response from the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES).

According to officials, the fire call was recieved by District Fire Control room Qazigund at 08:38 am, following which fire tenders from Fire Station Qazigund and Fire Station Tunnel were immediately rushed to the spot.

The blaze affected portions of a double-storey, L-shaped building with a GCI sheet-roofed structure, causing extensive damage to the roof and ceiling.

During the firefighting operation, two fire personnel sustained injuries while battling the flames.
The injured have been identified as:
* Fireman Muzaffar Ahmad Wani (Belt No. 1789)
* Fireman (Driver) Waseem Mehraj Shah (Belt No. 2709)

Both personnel are posted at F&ES Qazigund and were immediately shifted to a medical facility for treatment.

The firefighting operation was led by Station Officer Ghulam Hussan, under the guidance of Assistant Director F&ES Moin Ul Islam, and supervised by Mobilizing Officer Aijaz Ahmad Shah. The fire was subsequently brought under control, averting further damage to the property.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and further investigations are currently underway.
