Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK), Naseer Ahmad Wani on Sunday said that the government is committed to ensuring availability of textbooks in all government schools across the Valley and assured that the supply has already begun reaching institutions.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event in Badgam as per KNS, Wani said that the initiatives being organised for students are aimed at nurturing their talent and overall growth.
He said that “JKBOSE has already notified that books are available, and supplies have been dispatched. In a few days, textbooks will reach every school. Books have been available since November 17, and distribution is underway.”
Responding to concerns raised about shortage of books in certain schools, Wani emphasized that the department is actively monitoring the situation. He also warned private schools against overcharging students or prescribing books outside the approved curriculum.
“Our aim, whether in private or government schools, is to ensure quality education for every child. Private schools must adhere to NCERT-prescribed books and cannot impose additional materials on parents at will,” he said.
Regarding complaints of arbitrary fees by private institutions, Wani said the Fee Fixation Committee is empowered to regulate school fees and parents can approach the panel with grievances.
Commenting on government schools still functioning from rented accommodations in Badgam, the DSEK said efforts are underway to shift all such institutions to government-owned buildings.
“Development of infrastructure takes time, but we are working to ensure better facilities for students,” he added.(KNS)
