The District Kathua Taekwondo Championship 2025 concluded successfully with the closing and medal ceremony held amid enthusiasm and sporting spirit, marking a memorable end to the district-level championship. The event witnessed vibrant participation and strong encouragement from the sporting community of District Kathua.
The ceremony was graced by Dr. Bharat Bhushan, MLA Kathua, as the Chief Guest, who distributed prizes among the participants.
The championship was conducted with the active involvement of officials from the Taekwondo Association of J&K in coordination with the J&K Sports Council, ensuring smooth, disciplined and fair conduct of the competition.
Around 150 players from various schools and clubs across District Kathua participated, showcasing commendable skill, discipline and competitive spirit. The event served as an important platform to promote taekwondo at the grassroots level and to identify emerging talent.
The J&K Sports Council under the Department of Youth Services and Sports has been providing improved sports infrastructure, modern training facilities, qualified coaching support and regular competitive exposure to athletes. Training programmes and district-level competitions are being organized across all districts of Jammu & Kashmir, ensuring equal opportunities for athletes to train, compete and progress to higher levels.
The medalists of the championship will represent District Kathua in the upcoming 28th J&K UT Taekwondo Championships 2025, making the event a key selection platform for district-level talent.
While addressing the gathering, MLA Dr. Bharat Bhushan congratulated all the participants and lauded the performance of the athletes and emphasized the importance of sports in shaping disciplined, confident and healthy youth. He further stated that the youth of Kathua must participate in sports and show their capabilities at the National stage.
Congratulating the athletes, Ms. Nuzhat Gul, Secretary, J&K Sports Council, said, “I congratulate all the medal winners and participants for their impressive performances. The Govt aims remains committed at strengthening training systems, facilities and competitive platforms so that athletes from every district of J&K can achieve excellence at state and national levels.”
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of medals and certificates, reinforcing the message of sportsmanship, dedication and the growing popularity of taekwondo in District Kathua.
